28 June 2016, Brussels: CoR Workshop on “Missing transport links in border regions” :
AEBR was represented in this workshop by Mr. César Morcillo, Director of the Office of Extremadura in Brussels and coordinator of the AEBR Antenna in Brussels.
Mr. Wolfgang Schausberger presented the study “The potential of closing missing links of small scale infrastructure in Europe's border regions”.
Experience from the ground was presented by
- Mário Fernandes, Director of Planning, Infraestruturas de Portugal S.A.: The case of Euroregion Extramadura/ Alentejo, ES/PT border and
- Sandra Sodini, Director, EGTC GO: The case of train connection Gorizia- Nova Gorica, IT/SLO border.
The CoR informed that a working group will be created to define the following steps related to the identification of missing links. The EC and the EP already expressed their willingness to cooperate. The AEBR also confirmed the interest in collaborate in this working group, as the regions of the AEBR can contribute their expertise and the know-how based on their experience on the ground.
It was also announced in the meeting that there will be a call of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) in 2016 specifically focused on small-scale cross-border projects (to be launched in September 2016).
