Brussels, 29 November 2016: 6th meeting of the High Level group on monitoring of simplification for beneficiaries of ESI funds:
The Association of European Border Regions was invited to take part in the stakeholders panel at the sixth meeting of the High Level group on monitoring of simplification for beneficiaries of ESI Funds, which took place in Brussels on 29 November 2016. This High Level Group of Independent Experts has been set up by the Commission in 2015 to offer advice with regard to simplification and reduction of administrative burden for beneficiaries of the European Structural and Investment Funds. The sixth meeting of the group marked the shift of the focus of its work from concrete conclusions and recommendations that could still be addressed in the current programming period to broader reflections on the future of Cohesion Policy, after 2020.
AEBR was represented by the chair of its Advisory Committee, Mr. Jens Gabbe, who had the opportunity to make a short presentation of 7 minutes, focusing on key issues for simplification from the perspective of the AEBR. He pointed out that additional problems arise due to the fact that at least two states have to be involved in EU programmes and projects. Therefore, there would be a big need for simplification.
