On invitation of Mr. Jiří Buriánek, Secretary General of the European Committee of the Regions,  a TECHNICAL STRUCTURED DIALOGUE MEETING ON THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION'S WORK PROGRAMME 2017 took place in Brussels on Tuesday 24 January 2017.

Mr. Jiří Buriánek opened the meeting and welcomed the representatives of CPRM, AER, AEBR, CEMR, Eurocities.  AEBR was represented by César Morcillo, Director of the Office of Extremadura and Head of the AEBR Antenna Brussels.

After adoption of the agenda, he gave the floor to Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet, Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission, who presented the EC Work Programme. Mr. Paquet mentioned that the Work Programme would focus on the 10 priorities of President Juncker.  Defense (relationship with NATO, cooperation, new measures in the middle of this year) would be a new ambition. In March, there would be the anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, and the EC would also plan to publish the White Paper in that month. He also underlined that there would be a continued effort at looking at the current stock of legislation, the social impact would be considered as well. Simplification and burden reduction are further points to be taken into account. Implementation would also be a part of the EC work package, as well as Cohesion Policy, investments, energy for all Europeans (efficiency, renewables, marked design, creation of platforms, etc.). Europe 2020 would remain the framework.

Afterwards, Associations were able to address their questions to Mr. Paquet. AEBR referred in particular to the future of territorial cooperation and CBC and underlined the urgent need for simplification.

The working paper of AEBR entitled “Simplification and management of programmes” is available for download from the AEBR website in English, French and German.
