Brussels, 13 July 2017: Meeting of the AEBR Advisory Committee:

Highranking representatives of the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions met with the AEBR Advisory Committee to discuss the future of Cohesion Policy and cross-border cooperation as pillar of European Cohesion and integration. The follwoing AEBR statements were discussed in detail: 

-          Importance of Cohesion Policy

-          EU Cohesion and Regional Policy and Cross-Border Cooperation

-          Statements and recommendations with regard to the 7th Cohesion Report

-          Medium/Longterm strategies as basis for successful cross-border cooperation

-          Decentralisation of future Interreg A Programmes (incl. Interreg Agreement)

-          Simplification.

With some minor amendments, these documents were positively adopted. The AEBR Executive Committee was recommended to ratify these papers and to send them to European institutions and the European border regions, asking them to support the AEBR positions. 

The statement of CoR Rapporteur Pavel Branda on People-to-people and small-scale projects in cross-border cooperation programmes as well as the AEBR statement on People-to-people projects were welcomed. Another important topic concerned the draft statutes for the AEBR foundation.
