There are just 4 weeks to go until this year’s International Benchmarking Forum, which will be held in Basel from June 12–13, 2014. We have confirmed speakers and workshop details which you find in the revised Programme under the following LINK.

This year, the conference which specialices on issues of regional competitiveness focuses on the importance of the location quality and the location promotion on the regional level. How can regional economic development strategies be improved? What are the challenges of location promotion? The Forum deals with these questions in different ways: from the theoretical view via practical experiences down to the active participation of the participants in the workshops and discussions.

On the first day, invited speakers as well as BAKBASEL will present different inputs on location promotion. Project results of two studies commissioned by the State Secretariat of Economy of Switzerland (SECO) will be part of the first inputs before regional experts present their experiences in location promotion and speak about practical experiences. The day will be concluded by a panel discussion.

The evening programme includes guided tours at the world famous Kunstmuseum Basel followed by a dinner on MS Merian on the Rhine.

On the second day, BAKBASEL will present tools out of the International Benchmarking Database (IBD) which support location promotion. The International Benchmarking Database (IBD) covers the most important indicators regarding the economic performance as well as location factors. To learn more on special regional issues such as decentralization, metropolitan area growth factors, urban/rural discrepancies and the thematically highly interesting crossborder regions, a set of workshops allows the participants to get involved actively and discuss together with the experts.

The Forum addresses stakeholders from regional and national governments, associations and institutions, academia and due to this years main theme practitioners in national and regional location promotion from Switzerland, Europe and beyond.
