This award is the only European prize that honours particular achievements in the field of cross-border cooperation. The first award was handed over on the occasion of the AEBR Annual Conference 2002 in Papenburg/Groningen, Ems Dollart Region (DE/NL).

Main aim of the award is motivation for active contribution to a better understanding and cooperation between the nations of Europe, and promotion of European integration at the borders.

All in all, eight applications were handed in from different European regions for this year's award with the theme "Territorial Cooperation in a Post-Crisis Scenario. Contribution of Cross-Border Cooperation".

The international jury finally selected Euroregion Nestos-Mesta (Greece/Bulgaria) with their project "Target: Work" as winner 2010.

"Target: Work" is a mentoring scheme fostering entrepreneurial spirit among people interested in becoming entrepreneurs. It also enhances employability in the times of economic crisis and takes advantage of territorial cooperation. Another aim is to strengthen the entrepreneurship and stabilize the job situation in that border area between Greece and Bulgaria.
