AEBR General Assembly and Annual Conference 2016:

On invitation of Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa, celebrating 25 years of existence this year, the AEBR General Assembly and Annual Conference 2016 will be held in the three partners of this Euroregion, from 22 to 24 September 2016.

The programme on Thursday, 22 September, will take place in Görlitz (Germany). After the AEBR internal meetings in the morning (Executive Committee meeting and General Assembly) the Annual Conference will start at 13.30h under the motto "A Safe Future without Borders!"

The event is opened by Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of AEBR; Landrat Bernd Lange, President of Euroregion Neisse; Heinz Lehmann, Member of the Parliament of Saxony;  Lena Andersson Pench, Director, DG REGIO; Raffaele Cattaneo, Chair of the CoR COTER Commission, President of Lombardy Regional Council.

The first round table addresses the topic "The role and importance of cross-border cooperation in the future European Cohesion and Regional Policy" and is chaired by Geert Versnick, AEBR Vice-President and Deputy of the Province of East Flanders. Lena Andersson Pench, Director of DG REGIO/European Commission,  will present the current status of the Midterm Review of the Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU and the 7th Cohesion Report 2017 – Paving the way for the future.  Panelists are Jiri Horácek, Director in the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development of the Czech Republic; Stefano Georgiadis, President of Euroregion Nestos-Mesta; Ángel-Luis Sánchez Munoz, Secretary General for External Relations, Andalusia; Anita Ryng, Director of the Territorial Development Department of the Polish Ministry of Development; Ari Berg, Vice-President of the Board of the Regional Council of South Karelia; Alexander Maier, Government of Tyrol / ARGE ALP.

After this round table debate, the AEBR Task Forces will meet (planned: TF External Borders, TF Interreg, TF CB Culture).

The day ends with a reception on invitation of the Free State of Saxony.


The programme continues on Friday 23 September in Liberec, Czech Republic. Under the chairmanship of Martin Puta, President of Euroregion Nisa, the panelists will debate the hot topic "Border Obstacles". Nathalie Verschelde, Deputy Head of Unit D2, DG Regional and Urban Policy, will introduce the topic and present the study of the European Commission on border obstacles. The session will go on with a discussion with Konstantinos Exakoustos, Regional Councillor of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, Vize-Gouvernor for Development; Peter Kaiser, Landeshauptmann of Carinthia; Peter Hansen, Leader of the German Group in AEBR and Director of Region Sonderjylland-Schleswig. The afternoon session is fully dedicated to the celebrations on occasion of the 25th anniversary of Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa and the AEBR Award "Sail of Papenburg" 2016 ceremony. In the evening, the President of Liberec Region invites to a reception.

On the last day of this cross-border event, Saturday 24 September, the participants will visit the Polish part of Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa on the occasion of a study trip to Boleslawiec (Bunzlau):

-  Visit of the Museum of Ceramics,

-  Manufacturers (probl. shopping),

-  Noon – Brunow Castle.
