Friday, 10 June 2016: Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) in Cottbus, Euroregion Spree-Neiße-Bober :

On Friday, 10 June 2016, the Executive Committee of the Association of European Border Regions met in Cottbus. The 40 participants from 12 different European Countries were welcomed by members of the board of Euroregion Spree-Neiße-Bober, Mr. Harald Altekrüger, Landrat of Landkreis Spree-Neiße, and Mr. Holger Kelch, Lord Mayor of Cottbus. The meeting took place in the park of Branitz, which has become thanks to European funding one of the most important tourism locations in the area of Euroregion Spree-Neiße-Bober. 

 

The agenda of the meeting contained important topics, such as:

- Conclusions of the Luxembourg Council Presidency,

- EU Eurobarometer on cross-border cooperation,

- Cross-Border Review of the European Commission,

- Mid-Term Review of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework and 7th Cohesion Report,

- Report of MEP Mihaylova on European Territorial Cooperation,

- Study of the CoR on the Future Cohesion Policy

- Cross-Border tourism initiatives in the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions.

 

The statements of AEBR with regard to the above mentioned points will soon be available online in the AEBR website.

 

During the AEBR Executive Committee meeting, two new Task Forces were launched as well. The first one will deal with current issues related to Interreg, Chairman is Mr. Michiel Scheffer (Province of Gelderland), while the second one is dedicated to address impacts of Schengen on border regions.

 

The next meeting of the AEBR Executive Committee is planned to take place on 22 September 2016 in Görlitz (Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa), in the scope of the AEBR Annual Conference 2016.
