Brussels, 31 January 2018: AEBR took part in the political Structured Dialogue Meeting at the CoR with Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission :

Pavel Branda, Vice-President of the Association of European Border Regions, took part in the political Structured Dialogue Meeting at the CoR with Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission, which was held on 31 January 2018 on invitation of CoR President Karl-Heinz Lambertz.

The Presidents of the Association had the chance to address the Commission in this new series of Structure Dialogues promoted by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). In his intervention, Mr. Branda stressed the need to keep the border open. He also commended the cross-border review and called for strenghening CBC (Interreg) including the people-to-people projects. Mr. Branda also underlined the need to better communicate the results of projects.

There was a previous technical structured dialogue meeting at the Committee of the Regions on 24 January, where the associations had the chance to discuss the Commission’s Working Programme 2018 with Jean-Eric Paquet, Deputy Secretary General Adjunto fo the European Commission and Jiří Buriànek, Secretary General of the CoR. Two rounds of exchanges took place dealing with the following topics, which are going to be deeper followed by the CoR and the Associations:

-       EU Multi-Annual Financial Framework, and particularly the future Cohesion Policy

-       European Infrastructures / Connecting Europe Facility, particularly digitalisation,

-       Fighting Climate Change and Adaptation

-       Migration,

-       Europäische Säule sozialer Rechte.
