Interview to Martin Guillermo Ramirez, Secretary General of AEBR, on "Interreg Volunteer Youth":

The Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy’ s magazine Panorama published in its 67th  issue an interview to the Secretary-General of AEBR, Martín Guillermo Ramírez.

The interview offers a broad vision of the “Interreg Volunteer Youth” (IVY) initiative which AEBR manages since 2017. On this occasion, Mr Guillermo Ramírez assesses the project’s implementation from its launch in March 2017 to now – paying also a glimpse into the future of the initiative. More than 250 volunteers from all over the EU have been involved in cross-border, transnational and interregional Interreg programs and projects. Thus far, 36 Interreg programs and over 80 projects have been developed in 20 European countries.

The European Commission has decided to extend IVY until December 2019 but Martín Guillermo Ramírez suggested that AEBR should aspire to make IVY permanent and integrated in the core of all European territorial cooperation programmes, possibly also beyond the EU borders and Interreg. According to his words “Such an experience enhances volunteers´ sense of European Solidarity, citizenship and civic engagement”. “IVY volunteers start to feel involved in building Europe especially when they assist in cross-border interventions aimed at reducing obstacles and building trust, or when they report on the progress of such actions” – tells Mr Guillermo Ramírez.
