AEBR at the European Week of Regions and Cities 2019:

The European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) 2019 is under development – consequently, AEBR is in a planning phase as it will be present at the event with three workshops. Co-organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and  the European Committee of the Regions, the EWRC is a key event on EU Regional Policy and a unique networking platform for experts in regional and local development. In October 2019 AEBR will participate in three sessions, shedding light on different topics: solving obstacles to cross-border cooperation, communicating about Cohesion Policy, and seizing opportunities for regions at the external borders of the EU.

Local, regional, national and European decision-makers and experts from all over the EU will gather again in Brussels this October to exchange on good practice in regional innovation and community-led local development, cross-border cooperation, public-private partnerships and much more. AEBR will offer three platforms to discuss aspects which are crucial for border regions.

Together with DG Regio, AEBR will participate to the session “Completing the toolbox to overcome legal obstacles in cross-border regions”. On this occasion, the outcomes of the pilot initiative managed by AEBR b-solutions will be presented to provide bottom-up examples illustrating the potential role of the European Cross-Border Mechanism proposed by the European Commission as a tool to solve legal obstacles to CBC.

Under the title “The EU at Hand: New Inputs from Volunteers”, AEBR and some participants to the initiative “Interreg Volunteer Youth” will show how young people contribute to bring the EU closer to the citizens while inspiring the audience with new, creative ideas.

In addition, AEBR will held the workshop “Future role of regions on Eastern External borders of the EU” offering a platform to discuss the future role of regions at the EU external borders during the next Programming Period of the EU. In particular, participants will consider the impact of cross-border cooperation as policy tool to enhance sustainable neighbouring relationships in consideration of the shift in the management of the Neighbourhood cross-border cooperation Programmes under DG REGIO.

AEBR will also support activities realised to give visibility to the Cohesion Alliance during the EWRC.

The EWRC takes place from 7th to 10th October 2019. More details to follow.
