Deputy Marc De Buck (Province of East Flanders, Euregio Scheldemond), Vice-president of the AEBR, represented the Association in the Round Table “The 5th Cohesion Report: First reactions from regional and local stakeholders” organised by the CoR COTER commission on 16 November 2010 in Brussels, with the participation of Commissioner Johannes Hahn and the President of the CoR, Mrs. Mercedes Bresso.

During the Round Table, Vice-president Marc De Buck informed to what extend the 5th cohesion report can contribute to tackle the challenges of border & cross-border regions and asked what can be expected from the future architecture of the cohesion policy. "The challenges are multiple", says Marc De Buck, "especially for border regions because they often share the same problems such as unemployment, poor and aging infrastructures, low income or a lack of multimodal transport/mobility that ask for a cross-border approach".

Vice-President De Buck asked the following on behalf of AEBR:

- "Is the 5th cohesion report a good basis for tackling the challenges for

border and cross-border regions? In particular, do you see in the 5th

cohesion report an appropriate recognition of the role of cross-border

structures, including EGTCs, towards an increased territorial cooperation

in the next period?"

- To what extent is the 5th cohesion taking up the issue of macroregional

strategies? "

- "What can border and cross-border regions expect from the future

architecture of cohesion policy?"
