Committee of the Regions’ Opinion on the European Solidarity Corps:

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has drafted an opinion on "Investing in Europe's Youth and the European Solidarity Corps". This is of high interest for AEBR and its members not just for the relevance paid to European youth and related issues, but also because of AEBR’s “Interreg Volunteer Youth” (IVY) pilot action, which is part of the European Solidarity Corps.

The draft Opinion highlights that local and regional authorities play an important role in the implementation of youth policies and are competent in several topics related to young people (education, employment, social inclusion, volunteering etc.). This is very much in line with AEBR’s Interreg Volunteer Youth initiative that offers the possibility to young Europeans to serve as volunteers in the cross-border, transnational or interregional programmes and related projects. The overall objective is to make them aware of the many benefits of collaboration among EU internal borders as well as enhance their sense of European solidarity, citizenship and civic engagement.

This draft Opinion will be debated and voted in the CoR’s 123rd plenary session on 11th-12th May 2017.
