Third edition of AEBR’s Cross-Border School:

3rd AEBR’s Cross Border School “The culture of Cross-Border Cooperation” will be held in Dresden (Euregio Elbe/Labe, Germany) on 23 October 2019. CB School is a meeting point for CBC researchers and practitioners to discuss about CBC in current times.

Just before AEBR General Assembly and Annual Conference 2019, the third edition of AEBR’s Cross-Border School will be held in Dresden, Germany, in the territory of Euregio Elbe/Labe (DE/CZ), on 23 October 2019, under the title “The culture of Cross-Border Cooperation”. This event is a unique opportunity to learn about the latest researches and trends on cross border cooperation, as well as a meeting point for related actors and experts from all over Europe and beyond. Academics and practitioners will discuss with the audience the added value of cross border cooperation against the backdrop of the current political situation locally and globally.

Following on the success of the first two editions in Badajoz (Extremadura, Spain) in October 2017 and in Oulu (Bothnian Arc, Finland) in September 2018, the next Cross-Border School is organised by AEBR in partnership by four institutes: the Technical University of Dresden (DE), the University of Twente (NL), Radboud University (NL), and Liberec University (CZ). Presentations, discussions and workshops will guide the audience through the latest academic researches and updates on the current situation of CBC in the EU and beyond.

Topics of this year’s Cross-Border School are borders in a globalised context, success stories of cross-border cooperation as a strategy to face Euroscepticism and the provision of services across national borders - workshops and debates to deepen the discussion will follow the presentations in the afternoon. In conclusion, the audience and the academics will have the chance to interact and exchange suggestions for books and other material to read in order to enhance knowledge in this specific field.

Three years of AEBR Cross-Border School has confirmed the need for this kind of events. Starting next year, AEBR’s Cross-Border School has been proposed to be integrated as a workshop in the “21st Century Borders” project initiated by the University of Victoria in Canada, as a further initiative ensuing BIG (Borders in Globalization) project.
