JOB OFFER: Project assistant at the Association of European Border Regions

The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) is a Europe-wide organisation representing border and cross-border regions with the aim to promote cross-border cooperation practices.

AEBR has its headquarters in Gronau and a project office in Berlin, Germany.

 

About the job:

The job is full-time (39 hours/week) and based in AEBR’s project office in Berlin, starting from June 2025 (flexible start) to December 2026, with the possible perspective of an extension.

The working language is mostly English, but knowledge of German is also requested.

 

The selected candidate will assist in the implementation of various projects that AEBR manages on behalf of the European Commission, namely b-solutions 3.0. Facilitating Cross-border Solutions, Resilient Borders and Cross-Border Energy Communities.

 

The selected candidate will support the implementation of the projects mentioned above, with a  variety of responsibilities, including: administrative support, applicant support and assistance with the management of calls for proposals, project contracting, communication and dissemination, project assessment and reporting.

 

The main tasks to be performed include:

• Provide assistance to project applicants, addressing their queries and guiding them through the application process;
• Assist in the management of calls for proposals (preparation, closure, assessment, selection) and ensure they are widely distributed to reach potential applicants;
• Support the contracting process for projects, ensuring all necessary documentation and agreements are in place;
• Assist in communication efforts related to the projects, including helping to disseminate information to stakeholders and the public;
• Review and assess reports produced by stakeholders in the framework of the projects to ensure completeness and compliance;
• Help with the production of publications showcasing the projects’ outcomes;
• Manage project documentation and data, maintaining records and collecting and organising data relevant to the projects;
• Accompany and monitor the implementation of projects to assist the preparation of detailed reports for submission to the European Commission;
• Handling logistical aspects such as travel arrangements and procurement of materials;
• Represent the projects at key conferences, speaking publicly about the initiatives’ vision and objectives.

The position is to be filled by June with a contract until December 2026, with the possible perspective of an extension. The annual salary will depend on the candidate’s experience. It starts from at least EUR 42.100,00 gross per year and is calculated in accordance with the civil service collective agreement (TVöD) of the German system. The net salary depends on individual taxation.

 

Needed competencies – minimum requirements:

The person filling the vacancy is expected to have following competencies to best support AEBR:

• University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. European studies, political science, public administration, etc.) or equivalent professional experience;
• Knowledge, previous experience or interest in the field of cross-border cooperation and European policy making;
• Communication in English and German, at least C1 (cfr. reference);
• Good command of the MS-Office suite.

 

Desirable qualifications and competencies:

• Experience in the framework of EU-funded programmes, ideally in the framework cross-border cooperation;
• Knowledge of another European language;
• Familiarity with European laws and legislative procedures;
• Organisation and accuracy, attention to detail;
• Teamwork and collaboration;
• Autonomy;
• Willingness to travel.
