During AEBR Annual Events 2021 we have commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Association looking into the future from Arnhem, in the Dutch Province of Gelderland, on 20-22 October.

The 5th Cross-Border School has been organized by AEBR and the Radboud University of Nijmegen in Arnhem and online at 10:00-12:30, 13:30-14:30 and 15:00-16:30, hosted by the Province of Gelderland in the Haus of the Province (Huis der Provincie, Markt 11, 6811 DG Arnhem). AEBR Executive Committee met at 9:00 in the House of the City (Arnhem City Hall, Koningsstraat 38, 6811 DG Arnhem), followed by the General Assembly of AEBR members at 10:15. Both events had simultaneous interpretation in English, French and German.
At 12:00, a bus transfer was organized to the Industrial Park Kleefsewaard (IPKW, Westervoortsedijk 73, 6827 AV Arnhem), where AEBR Annual Conference 2021 took place. A walking lunch was followed by the welcome speeches of host authorities and AEBR. Then, it followed a very encouraging and inspiring video message by Commissioner Elisa Ferreira.
Current major challenges for border and cross-border regions (Green Deal, Digitalisation, Recovery and Resilience) were discussed with EU institutions, national authorities and other organizations in various workshops, keynote sessions and a studio. AEBR Annual Conference 2021 working language was English. The detailed programme and further information about all events were included on the Momice platform but, unfortunately, this information is no longer available online.
We worked on various aspects of the Green Deal of particular interest for border regions, such as water management, hydrogen and other energy transition issues, sustainable food, funding opportunities, or entrepreneurship in cross-border contexts.
At 17:15 we finished the works of the day with the bestowal of AEBR Award Sail of Papenburg 2021. The winner was the Environmental Management Enhancement by Youth -run SMEs / EnvironmentYou project by Euroregion Nestos Mesta (Greece). The second was the Cleantech Energy Crossing project, by the CB region North Rhine-Westphalia / Overijssel, Gelderland, Brabant and Limburg. The third prize was won ex aequo by Euregio Rhein-Waal (Green Across the Border project) and the EGTC Eurodistrict PAMINA (PAMINA Youth Conference Climate project). AEBR also bestowed the SoP Personal Award to Joan Vallvé, former AEBR President (1996-2004) for his lifetime achievements in European CBC.
From 19:00 to 23:00 AEBR 50th Anniversary Celebrations took place with a Dinner designed by Katja Gruiters and Party with Live Band at Eusebius in Arnhem.
