In October AEBR Balkans attended many sessions at the European Week of the Regions and Cities that was organized online this year. Also, AEBR Balkans attended at the Launch Event of the Leadership Academy Programme for Cross-Border Cooperation and participated at the XIII Round Table International Cooperation for Regional Development.
Leadership Academy for cross-border cooperation
On 5th October 2020, AEBR Balkans attended the Launch Event of the Leadership Academy Programme for Cross-Border Cooperation for the border local authorities of Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia. The event was organized by the Council of Europe’s Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, in cooperation with the Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia (ISIG) and the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives Balkans (CESCI-Balkans) and it was attended by various representatives of national governments, associations of local authorities and several training institutions.
The Leadership Academy Programme for Cross-Border Cooperation is conceived by the Council of Europe to improve institutional leadership at the local level, to overcome common problems and to foster the harmonious development of neighbouring communities.
The programme includes new modules on how to develop leadership-skills in times of crises, as well as a training session on a toolkit to assess resilience and preparedness to manage emergencies at a local level – based on the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic.

XIII Round Table International Cooperation for Regional Development
AEBR Balkans participated at the XIII Round Table International Cooperation for Regional Development and shared its experience on cross-border cooperation in the Balkans.
The Round Table was organized on 26th October 2020, within the framework of the XIX Annual Strategic Planning Leaders Forum of the Regions and Cities of Russia, which traditionally takes place every October in Saint Petersburg.
The round table, also this year, continued its regular work on addressing current challenges, discussing and highlighting the goals of regional development and strategic territorial planning, mostly showing the experience of the Russian Federation and of the near and far abroad.
Leading experts from Europea, Africa and other regions presented their ideas and best practices in the social, cultural, environmental and economic sectors in context of the specific their territories. In addition, leading Russian experts shared their experience and results regarding the main themes of the session.
This year the discussion was structured according to three main thematic rounds:
– Round one: cross-border cooperation issues
– Round two: development in the context of COVID-19
– Round three: cultural aspects of territorial / regional planning
