On 7 April, AEBR and EGTC Eurodistrict PAMINA, in collaboration with the City of Karlsruhe, the District of Karlsruhe and Région Grand-Est, organized a forum at the Südwerk Bürgerzentrum Südstadt in Karlsruhe to discuss the many challenges that European border regions are facing (climate change, energy transition, digitalisation, demographic change, …), the need to implement innovative approaches and be ready for change.
The inspiring words of Jochen Ehlgötz, Managing Director of the Technologie Region Karlsruhe were replied by not less inspiring ones by Nathalie Verschelde from the Border Focal Point at DG Regio. Both took part in the following discussion with Karl-Heinz Lambertz, AEBR President, Jean Jacques Bernardini from Grand-E nov, Jerome Friedrichs from EURADA, Sandra Jorge from the CCDR Alentejo and the participants. The Chamber of Drama (Greece) took part through a video contribution.
We knew about some practical cases and also got some interesting messages and recommendations for the (immediate) future regarding cross-border approaches to the energy transition, circular economy, the interoperability of services, and the role of projects such as b-solutions or the New European Bauhaus.
