JOB OFFER: Legal Advisor at the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR)

The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) is a Europe-wide organisation that represents border and cross-border regions, promoting cross-border cooperation.

AEBR has its headquarters in Gronau and a project office in Berlin, Germany.

About the job:

This is a part-time position (20 hours per month), running from September 2025 (with a flexible start) to December 2026, with the possibility of extension. The position is considered a mini-job according to German law, with a monthly remuneration of €556.00.

You can work from our project office in Berlin or remotely. The working language is mainly English, but knowledge of German is also desirable.

As a legal advisor, you will gain knowledge and assist in implementing the b-solutions 3.0. Facilitating Cross-border Solutions initiative, which supports public actors at all governance levels in overcoming legal and administrative obstacles to cross-border cooperation in Europe. The b-solutions initiative is promoted by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and managed by AEBR.

The main tasks of the legal advisor include:

  • Support in formal and content review of reports written by international experts on legal and administrative obstacles to cross-border cooperation in Europe;
  • Communication with experts on their reports;
  • Support in the preparation of publications on the b-solutions 3.0 initiative with a particular focus on law-specific content;
  • Support in drafting contracts for the commissioning of legal and/or administrative experts and other AEBR service providers;
  • Presentation of the b-solutions initiative at relevant public events;
  • If possible, preparation and implementation of training courses for AEBR colleagues on legal topics relating to cross-border cooperation in Europe.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in law or an advanced law student;
  • Profound knowledge of the EU legal system, EU institutions and EU policy-making;
  • Knowledge, previous experience or interest in the field of cross-border cooperation;
  • Excellent communication skills in English (at least C1 (cfr. reference)); knowledge of German and/or another European language is desirable;
  • Good command of MS-Office.
