Resilient Borders’ publications

Resilient Borders is an action promoted by the European Commission to support border regions’ resilience capacity.

Managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT), Resilient Borders offered financial support to applicants located in European border regions to set up joint spatial planning and cross-border crisis management plans.

  • The project aimed at enabling border regions to:
  • increase their preparedness to face potential crises, and
  • develop more efficient infrastructures and services on their territories.

The action is part of the European Parliament’s pilot project ‘Cross/Border Crisis Response Integrated Initiative’ (CB-CRII) and is financed by the European Commission, with a financial contribution of AEBR and MOT.

In July 2026, AEBR and MOT have issued the policy publication and compendium of the action, which highlights:

  • lessons learned to build resilience in border regions,
  • recommendations that can facilitate the uptake of joint initiatives reinforcing resilience and special planning in cross-border regions, and
  • useful insights into the experience of the selected pilot actions.
