The Cross-Border Energy Communities (CBECs) initiative, jointly managed by AEBR and MOT on behalf of DG REGIO, will be featured in the next edition of the “Interreg for a Greener Europe” webinar series organised by Interact on Wednesday 8 October (09:30–12:00).
The webinar will focus on Cross-Border Energy Communities (CBECs), which are transforming how citizens, local authorities, and SMEs generate, share, and manage energy across the EU. Extending this model across borders offers new opportunities for energy security, affordability, resilience, and regional growth.
The session will address the challenges of establishing CBECs, including legal and regulatory barriers and the need for coordination across jurisdictions. Participants will learn how Interreg programmes and projects are addressing these issues, how EU policy frameworks support CBECs, and what future opportunities exist for stakeholders.
The webinar will also provide an overview of the current CBECs call for proposals open until 21 November 2025 to select seven pilot actions. Each pilot action will receive technical support from REScoop.eu, the European federation of energy communities, and a subgrant of 15,000 EUR to help them move toward establishing quasi or full cross-border energy communities.
